Defying Age at 76 - An inspiring story of Sadanand Gogoi (Khyaal Community Member)
"I was amazed by one of my friends in Assam who was in the Airforce. He had won Mr. India title and his story really inspired me to get into fitness. I started participating in different bodybuilding competitions and slowly got used to it. But, back then Assam didn't have many facilities for bodybuilding.
In 1977, I moved to Mumbai in search of better opportunities and facilities for fitness. I joined ONGC in the finance department and side-by-side continued bodybuilding. My desire to excel, make an identity of my own and a hunger to achieve new heights always kept me motivated. Also, I enjoy fitness and it provides me with exceptional positive energy.
I have won various titles/competitions like "Mr. Bombay Junior" in 1986, "Mr. Bombay Masters" & "Mr. Maharashtra Masters" continuously for 9 years from 1991, "Mr. Western India Masters" 4 times from 1997 to 2000 and "Mr. India Masters" 5 times from 1997 to 2001. I also represented India in "Mr. Asia Bodybuilding Championship" for 4 years consistently from 1997 to 2000 and "Mr. World Masters Bodybuilding Championship" in 1998. I never imagined of winning so many titles but it was possible with strong willpower and determination.
I left competitive bodybuilding in 2003, but I continued bodybuilding exercises to maintain my fitness. I believe the ageing process can be prolonged with weight training and proper nutrition. Honestly, I am a natural Bodybuilder without any steroids and I firmly think hard work truly pays off. My motive now is to inspire others to be fit and help people achieve their bodybuilding dreams." - Sadanand Gogoi (Khyaal Community Member)
