Empowering others with Wealth Wisdom at 66
An inspiring story of K.R. Krishna Kumar (Khyaal Community Member)
“I am K.R. Krishna Kumar, a 16-year-old with a youthful spirit and 50 years of experience making me 66 at the moment. Born and raised in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, I grew up with a strong foundation in discipline and hard work, thanks to my father, an Electrical Engineer at Tata Motors.
My journey into the workforce began unexpectedly at 16, when I demonstrated my typewriting and shorthand skills to my father's boss, landing me a job on the spot. This marked the beginning of my professional life. When I lost my father at 22, I took on the responsibility of supporting my two younger sisters and two brothers, all while completing my Graduation in Commerce and CA qualification. I spent 40 years working with the TATA group at Jamshedpur, in Accounts and Audit roles. During the course of my career, I was very mindful about my finances, savings and investments.
Throughout my life, I have always been careful with money. Even as a child, I saved my pocket money and later invested my earnings. This habit of saving and investing became second nature to me. I ask myself two questions before making any purchase, "Do I need it, or do I want it?" If it was a need, I would go ahead, but if it was a want, I would postpone it. I targeted a goal to achieve financial freedom before my retirement, which I fortunately fulfilled. I believe that a strong foundation in financial planning and wise investments can lead to a secure and fulfilling life. I was also an avid golfer during my service. I had won prizes in three major tournaments. The game of golf had really taught me how to focus.
I retired in 2017 and moved to Bangalore with my wife and son who is also a Chartered accountant. Post retirement, I am keeping myself busy and active by filing income tax and GST returns of friends and families, which has now evolved into a freelance business. I joined Khyaal 1 year ago. I like attending their fun sessions of Tambola and Antakshari among others.
I believe that every person should learn to have a balance between health and wealth. Also, I have recently come out with an idea for the welfare of the community on Creation and Management of Wealth. I have coined a title for this project as CAMOW which very well resonates with the activity. This will benefit not only the present generation but also senior citizens. I have already gained a few clients for this and aspire to turn it into a business. I aim to help others to gain a more balanced and fulfilling life. I find joy in guiding others and hope to continue making a positive impact.
My advice to fellow seniors is to learn to manage your earnings and wealth efficiently, which is the key to a peaceful retirement life.” - K.R. Krishna Kumar (Khyaal Community Member)
