Here are the shortlisted entries from the ‘Simple Joys of Life’ poetry contest, where Khyaal Club members shared heartfelt poems celebrating everyday happiness. From gratitude to hope, memories to dreams, their word remind us that life’s true magic lies in the little moments we cherish.

MY SILENT KIN
I live alone, but not apart,
My garden friends fill up my heart.
The squirrel, peacock, parrot, crow,
The hornbill and the dog I know
—They come to share my food and drink,
a bond much deeper than we think.
One gentle look when they are fed,
is love that needs no words said.
But if I’m away from my shelter, neighbours say,
“Your weeping children turned away.”
These moments heal my daily strife,
the simple joy of my life.
To serve them is my humble plea,
until the spirit parts from me.

छोटी छोटी खुशियाँ
काग़ज़ की खुशबू से जाग उठी,
खिड़की से झाँकती धूप
बदलने का ढंग,
आह्लादित कर गयी मन को।
गरम चाय की प्याली थामे
कदम चल पड़े घर के बगीचे में,
गुलाब की कली खिले कुछ अधखिले गुलाबी फूल
मुस्कुराते रहने का सन्देश दे गये।
सुबहानी चिड़ियों का झुंड,
पेड़ों के बीच
फुदकते
देख अनजानी सी खुशी दे गये।
फिर बरामदे में कुर्सी डाल
बैठे गहरी तृप्ति का आनंद लेते,
एक सुकून भरी सुबह।

THE GIFT OF LIFE.
“Give me all things,” was my desperate plea, “So I may enjoy what this world offers me.”
But God in His wisdom, a different path chose, He gave me the scent of the rain and the rose.
He granted not objects to fill up my days, but the gift of breath in mysterious ways.
I asked for all things to enjoy life’s span, But He gave me Life—the most beautiful plan.
To cherish the moments, through calm and through strife, And discover the true simple joys of my life.
Not to find joy in the things I possess, but to enjoy all things, in true happiness.

छोटी छोटी ख़ुशियाँ

बगिया के फूल
धरती की धूल
पक्षियों की चहचहाहट
सर्दी में गर्माहट
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशीनवजात का क्रंदन
शिशु का पहला क़दम
तुतलाती बातें हरदम
खिलखिलाता बचपन
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशीसखी का स्पंदन
वो पहला चुंबन
शर्मीली आँखें उठाना
गीले बाल झटकाना
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशीहँसना अपनी बेवक़ूफ़ियों पर
नाच उठना जैसे मोर के पर
अपनी उम्मीदों पर उतरना खरा
सपनों को छूना ज़रा ज़रा
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशीदोस्तों के साथ खिलखिलाना
रूठे यार को मनाना
हर पल साथ निभाना
कुछ अच्छा कर जाना
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशीढूंढू फिर क्यूँ इधर उधर
ख़ुशी मेरे अंदर बाहर
ख़ुश कर जाती बातें छोटी छोटी
देते अद्भुत ख़ुशी जीवन के मोती

Joys of Life
Sitting in the balcony with the lights dim,
Entwining the fingers tightly with him.
With a warm cup of coffee, taking a sip,
And breaking a biscuit into two for a dip.
A walk in the park with a gentle breeze,
And a smile from yours makes the heart squeeze.
Down in the greenwoods with the babbling of the river,
And the chirping of birds makes my heart shiver.
After the day’s hard work comes rest in a calm night,
And to get up energetically in bright sunlight
Wow!! Life is beautiful, don’t you see?
In these simple things, Happiness (the joys of life) is free.

नियमित सी चल रही मेरी जिंदगी में
एक दीप हाल में प्रज्वलित हुआ
पद एक और बढ़ गया रिश्ते में
जी हां मैं दादा बन गया
उस मासूम के प्रथम दर्शन ने
मन में ऐसी उमंग जगाई
जैसे अंधेरे को चीरती हुई
सूर्य की पहली किरण है आई
और पहली बारिश की बूंदों ने
गर्मी से राहत मुझे दिलाई
ओस की बूंदे मोती बनकर
जैसे फूलों पर देती दिखाई
ऐसा ही कुछ मेरे मन ने
परम सुख की अनुभूती पाई
संग उसके बिताये हर पल मुझको
बेटे का बचपन‌ याद दिलाते ‌हैं
किलकारियां और मासुमियत उसकी
जीवन जीने की आस बढ़ाते हैं
गंवाते हैं छोटी खुशियों के पल‌ हम
बड़ी खुशियों की चाह में
हर पल को भरपूर जिओगे तो
मिलेगी खुशियां ‌जीवन‌ की राह में

जीने का आनंद
मीठा सपना कोई जब आता है
सुबह की गुनगुनी धूप से चेहरा नहाता है
पौधों की हरी- भरी हरियाली देख मन गाता है
फूलों का इंतजार करते हुए जब दिन गुजरता है
एक किताब रह-रह कर पढ़ने का मन करता है
कोई एक गाना दिल को छू लेता है
अपने हाथों से बने खाने की सुगंध से मन झूम उठता है
अपने दोस्तों के साथ बैठ चाय की चुस्की का लुफ्त मिलता है
इन छोटी- छोटी बातों में ही
जीने का आनंद आता है।

The simple joys of life come quietly and slow,
Like gentle morning sunrays wrapped in golden glow.
Gratitude and meditation begin the day with grace,
Softly pushing worries to a distant, quieter place.
Slowly sip your tea, savour every warming drop,
Feel the tender sunlight as flowers bloom and hop.
A gentle walk in nature, where soft green pathways tease,
Close your eyes—hear birds sing, leaves rustle in the breeze,
Each heartbeat dancing lightly, wrapped in gentle ease.
Sitting together, sharing food, laughter, and cheer,
Moments with family and friends grow richer each year.
Reading a book, humming tunes, writing thoughts in silence,
Finding peace and strength in mindful balance.
Celebrate small wins, cherish each step that you take,
Applaud the quiet courage in every choice you make.
Keep smiling, ignore the world’s noise, let your heart stay free,
For true happiness and simple moments of joy bloom gently
within you and me.

ज़िन्दगी की खुशियां
धूप की एक किरन जब खिड़की से झाँकेदिल के कोने में उम्मीद जागे
छोटी सी जीत भी बड़ा सुकून देती हैंअपनो के हँसी में थकान खो जाती है
सुबह की चाय में ज़िन्दगी सिमट जाती हैराह चलते फूलों से बाते हो जाती है
बीता कल छोड़ आज में जीकर खुशियाँ बटोर लेजरूरतों में भी मुस्कान समेट ले
सादगी में ही असली ज़िन्दगी हैइन्ही पलों में जीवन का अर्थ लिखा है।
